Why Italy is staying away from Durban II

The march 12th conference, organized by the Italian-Israeli friendship association at the Senate, represented the Italian way to say no to the “anti-Semite conference against democracy” that is Durban II. The Italian foreign minister, Franco Frattini, was among the speakers and explained why our country is staying away from the preliminary works of the conference, while all the other European countries are participating.

Franceschini’s many challenges

Dario Franceschini (50) is the new leader of the Italian PD (Partito Democratico). He was elected on February 21 – after Veltroni’s retirement – by a large majority (1,047 votes to 92 ) against Arturo Parisi.

Franceschini is a lawyer and a novelist and he was a member of the Partito Popolare (Popular Party) and the Margherita (Daisy). He has served as Pd’s deputy-secretary – with Veltroni as the boss – from October 2007 through February 2009.

Who is afraid of the Rais? Why the “friendly” deal was inevitable

There have been many ironical comments coming from leftists all around Italy about the "friendly" deal that Italy has just signed with Lybia. They said that Berlusconi has sold our soul to the devil or that the Italian people will have to pay for his poor ability in bargaining (!). The problem is: you don’t really bargain anything with the Rais, either you’re his friend or his enemy.
