The ashes of Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1928-2014) have been laid to rest in the historic Caribbean port city of Cartagena, in Colombia, where he began his writing career.
The city of Cartagena was the setting for one of Nobel Prize-winning best-selling novels, “Love in the Time of Cholera.”
One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967), by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is the best-selling of all books originally written in the Spanish language.
One Hundred Years of Solitude gave rise to the term “magic realism”, which is a literary style originated in Latin America that combines fantastic elements with realism.
