Quell’insensato antitrumpismo che offusca la realtà

Peter Baker e Maggie Haberman sul New York Times del 13 dicembre segnalano di non aver colto segni di panico in Trump, tutto intento a festeggiare la sua riforma fiscale, dopo la sconfitta in Alabama.

Bill Clinton, as we all know, survived impeachment and left office with a strong economic record and a 66-percent approval rating”. Bret Stephens, opinionista conservatore ma militante della causa antitrumpista fa osservare sul New York Times del 15 dicembre che anche Clinton con tutte le sue molestie sessuali e le sue bugie  ben provate, veniva dato per spacciato nel 1998, ma fu salvato dal boom della Borsa. Mentre, un altro commentatore conservatore antitrumpista sempre sul New York Times del 16 dicembre fa notare che nel Medio Oriente dopo tutti i terribili pasticci combinati dal trio Obama-Hillary Clinton-John Kerry finalmente si registra una vera vittoria contro l’Isis, che certamente è frutto dei militari e dei diplomatici americani ma anche del presidente.

Se me l’avessero detto un anno fa di questi successi – scrive Ross Douthat – non ci avrei creduto: “If you had told me in late 2016 that almost a year into the Trump era the caliphate would be all-but-beaten without something far worse happening in the Middle East, I would have been surprised and gratified. So very provisionally, credit belongs where it’s due — to our soldiers and diplomats, yes, but to our president as well”. E a proposito di Medio Oriente quelli che come Rick Gladstone e Mark Landler scrivono sul New York Times del 21 dicembre come: “ In a collective act of defiance toward Washington, the United Nations General Assembly voted 128 to 9, with 35 abstentions, for a resolution demanding that the United States rescind its dec. 6 declaration on Jerusalem, the contested holy city” una vastissima maggioranza dell’Onu abbia sfidato la scelta di Washington di riconoscere Gerusalemmme capitale di Israele, dovrebbero leggersi, per capire come la sfida anche israeliana del Donald abbia basi assai più ampie di quel che appare, Robert Satloff sul periodico di orientamento liberal Foreign Policy del 14 dicembre che scrive: “To my amazement, the relatively new MWL head, Muhammad Al-Issa, had a very different message. Mention of Jerusalem never passed his lips. Instead, he noted with pride the friendships he has built with rabbis in Europe and America,  the visit he recently made to a synagogue in Paris, and the interfaith dialogue to which he said he was now committed. This was not your father’s Saudi Arabia”. Con mia grande meraviglia ho appreso che il nuovo capo della Muslim world league,  Muhammad Al-Issa, non ha menzionato affatto il riconoscimento americano di Gerusalemme come capitale di Israele, e si è invece dilungato con orgoglio sulle amicizie che ha stabilito con rabbini di Europa e America, sulla sua visita a una sinagoga a Parigi, sul dialogo tra le fedi. Non c’è più l’Arabia Saudita di una volta. 

Ecco stupori che colpiscono pure intelligenti osservatori impegnati a difendere da sempre Israele, ma la cui percezione della realtà è stata oscurata da certe forme insensate di antitrumpismo.
